Brief Answer: Weaning as below Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing to health care magic. To wean and to provide adequate nutrition, home made food and Market available foods like cerelac, nestum are comparable. To provide extra micro nutrients you need to give iron and vitamin supplements at least for next 6 months. BEST INITIAL food to try would be boiled fruit like XXXXXXX or boiled vegetables. Once acceptance is good, then you can start on cereals like rice or ragi in gruel consistency. You can also use market baby foods like cerelac/nestum but not compulsory. Try boiled vegetables and fruits. Keep trying homemade soft foods . Give these foods 2 or 3 times a day only initially and increase by one feed every month . REST should be breast or formula milk, After 8 months you can start soft diet like idli, suji kheer, etc. Around 10 months try kitchdi, pongal, rice plus dhaal along with all vegetables and fruits. Add a teaspoon of oil or ghee to each food item . Acceptance may not be good initially but will improve over few weeks. We pediatricians usually recommend trying one new food item for a week before adding another so that taste buds get used to the item. This will prevent food rejection . And do give iron and vitamins. Wishing your kid great health. Regards
