Suggest Ways To Treat Rashes On The Hip For Over Two Months While On Clotrimazole

Question: I've had a rash for 2 months on my hip. The rash does not itch, burn pr hurt at all and has not spread. I was perscribed Clotrimazole cream USP,1% to use twice daily. The doctor said it looked like ring worm. i've been using the cream exactly 1 week. however, now it seems to be getting more red and seems to be getting slightly bigger since using the cream. does ring worm usually hurts or itch? mine isn't itching or hurt at all. im unsure if I'm using the proper medication cream or if this is even ring worm. Can a doctor please help me with determinating what this actually is and if this is the correct medication cream to be using? im guessing it's not supposed to get worse with this cream before it gets better? I've attached 2 pictures of the rash. Thank you in advance for your help.

Brief Answer:
Tinea corporis. Oral and topical antifungal

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have noted your concern and I have viewed the images.

Yes, it seems like a Tinea/ fungal infection. Tinea is usually itchy but Itching is a subjective symptom and may vary in severity from patient to patient.

If it is not responding to clotrimazole I suggest you to add an oral antifungal e.g. Tablet Terbinafine 250mg once a day for 2-4 weeks under a doctor's supervision. Change the cream to either ketoconazole 2% cream, twice daily or Miconazole nitrate 2% cream, twice daily.

Regards
