Suggest Ways To Manage Pain When Having Spine Issues

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: I already had an MRI and was told I have a T-12 thru L-2 herniation but the radiologist who is a friend said to hold off on surgery as long as possible. I'm an ER RN and just want some relief till I see my Dr on feb. 25th. I messed up my back this morning carrying my dog from the car to the house so her paws wouldn't get dirty in the garage.

Brief Answer:
follow conservative management recommendations

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I suggest you to follow conservative management recommendations and look for improvement in your symptoms-

* Avoid lifting heavy weights as it imparts more strain on your back
* avoid forward bending activities as it will worsen the disc protrusion
*Use a lumbosacral back support to augment your spinal muscles
* intermittent pelvic traction to cause a regression of disc
* maintain optimum body weight if you are obese
* physiotherapy to strengthen your back muscles. Physiotherapy has to be done only after the acute pain has subsided.
* use analgesics muscle relaxant as needed. You can take daily supplements of vitamin B12 also, as it a neurotrpic vitamin

Hope this helps you

Regards
