Posted on Thu, 22 Dec 2016
Question: I get depressed very easily and always feel that someone will get into my house and spoil my things, etc. This happens even when I have a minor argument with someone who knows my address. I doubt that they are after me for revenge. What to do? Please help. Thanks
Male 33 type 2 diabetic.

Brief Answer:
we need to differentiate between OCD and psychotic features

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

We need to evaluate that you have Obsessions or psychotic symptoms.

Obsessions are defined by and :

- Recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges, or images that are experienced, at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and unwanted, and that in most individuals cause marked anxiety or distress.

- The individual attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, urges, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action (i.e., by performing a compulsion).

Psychotic symptoms are:

When person doubts something(that is wrong belief) firmly and there is no evidence about that belief and person is not ready to accept that his/her doubt is wrong. It is called delusion.

Treatment of delusion and Obsessions differs.

Can you clarify what is exactly there, Obsessions or delusion from above explanation?

I will be happy to help further after your response.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Brief Answer:
we need to add anti psychotic medicine

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for information.

Many times it is difficult to differentiate between obsessions and delusion. Anti psychotic medicine like risperidone or aripirazole can help in treatment of such cases. Even in resistant OCD anti psychotic medicines are used as add-on treatment. You can ask your treating doctor about the same to modify treatment.

take care.
