Question: I’ve lost control of my blood sugar level. I haven’t tried contacting my Endocrinologist yet. I was just surfing and found that you have a chat feature. At any rate, my fasting blood sugar level yesterday morning was 453 at 4:00a, which I’ve never seen this high. I injected 12 units of Humalog and began my day. I came in from doing yard work at 9:15a to get a bite to eat. Checked my blood sugar and it was up to 499 without consuming any food and despite the 12 units of Humalog. I took another 12 units of Humalog and returned to my yard work. At 12:01p, my level was 364. I ate a power bar and returned to work. At 2:48p, my level was 269 and I assumed returning to normal. Had a lighter than normal dinner and check my level prior to bed at 10:30p, it was 274. I took 4 units of Humalog. This morning’s fasting was up to 320 without consuming any food and in spite of the 4 units of Humalog. I’m not sure of what might be going on. As a side note, I also came down with Hiccups yesterday morning that’s still on and off.

Brief Answer:
About Diabetes treatment;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
First of all you should try to find out why the blood sugar has gone so high?
Do you have symptoms of infection such as fever?
Have you taken the treatment regularly?
Or do you think the diet has been exaggerated?
Secondly, do you have basal insulin in your therapy except of humalog?
If you do not have basal insulin I would recommend to see a physician to modify the therapy, or if you are taking it actually you should increase the dose of basal rather than regular one.
Fasting high blood sugar is corrected by basal insulin.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
