Suggest Vaccinations For A 7 Month Old Baby

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Jan 2015
Question: Hello Doctor.

Thank you for your earlier consultations. I have two queries about my 7 month old baby.

1. She is very reluctant to sleep these days. I can see that she is sleepy but she will throw tantrums and cry If we try to put her to sleep. In a day, she sleeps upto 12 hours maximum (with 8-9 hours in the night). She is developing dark circles under her eyes. Can the dark circles be due to sleep deprivation? Can we do anything for these problems?

2. Recently there is an onset of swine flu in the city. We have given her the flu vaccine "VAXIGRIP" two times (November and December 2014). Is this vaccination cover swine flu/H1N1? Otherwise, would you recommend some other vaccination and can we give it to her?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Could be allergic shiners. That vaccine covers swine flu.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

1. Sleeping 10 hours is normal for a seven month old.
Don't worry. As your baby grows she starts exploring her surroundings more and no need to worry if sleep is not continuous. Even a deep sleep of 9 hours at night should be enough as long baby is playing well and active in the daytime.

The dark circles could be due to vitamin deficiency or allergic rash called allergic shiners. Does your baby frequently suffers with cold and cough? If so monteluekast can be given daily to decrease allergy.
Also try multivitamin supplements like Zincovit drops.
Ensure fruits and vegetables are included in her diet.

2. Vaxigrip 2 doses given should protect against swine flu.
No need for additional vaccine.

Wishing your child good health.

Hi Doctor,

First of all thanks for your inputs.
I would like to inform you that my child's physician has not prescribed any multi vitamin drops yet and only prescribed her a Vitamin-D drop (1ml per day) and iron drops.
Please let me know if we need to start any multivitamin drops (medicine name)
and for how long we need to give her that.

So far her food is concerned,
apart from breast feed we are giving her little quantity of boiled rice, dal and veggies twice and little banana and apple juice with pulp. She was exclusively breastfed for first 6 months and is still not eating solids properly. Should we include something specific in her diet? Just for your information. She is 7.5 months now and weights about 11.7 kgs. We have history of heavy kids in the family.

One more question I have is regarding a behavior. Sometimes, she clutches her both hands tightly on top of her chest, pulls up her legs and seems like very angry and struggling to breath. If we make her sit up, she is fine. Is this a normal tantrum as she hates lying down these days. Can this behavior indicate any discomfort?

Please let me know.

Brief Answer:
Zincovit drops, all types of vegetables and fruits

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

1. Add zincovit drops 0.5ml which is usually given as multivitamin supplement for 3 months.

2. Her weight is on the higher side, but given the family history of heavy kids, it could be a constitutional factor. Just increase all types of fruits and vegetables and decrease intake of rice . All seasonal fruits can be given .

3. That behavior is normal at this age as babies hate lying down and like being situp.

Regards

Thank you for your response. Since last night she suddenly is suffering from stuffy nose and cough. She seems to be teething. Just before her first tooth had come out, she had a similar episode which lasted for 7-8 days. Are these two related?
This morning I noticed she is having congestion in one nose and the eye on the same side is watering. What can this be?

Brief Answer:
viral cold

Detailed Answer:
I don't think it is related to teething.
Probably a viral cold
Try nasal saline drops one drop both sides every 6 hours.
I also prescribe t minic drops 0.5 ml twice daily for such babies. This is not available over the counter.
If not settling consult your doctor.

Thank you Doctor. I have heard from someone that t mimic is banned. Is it true? Will it not result in chest congestion or will help in taking the mucus out?

Is it something serious that only one side of nose and eyes are affected?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Arun (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
no, not banned

Detailed Answer:
T minic is not banned.
It is safe and can be given.
Sometimes one side of nose is affected more than other.
It is not serious.
Use nasal saline drops to relieve congestion.
