Suggest Treatments For Chronic Lyme Disease And H-pylori Infection

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Mar 2016
Question: I was bitten by Lymes some years ago and had short antibiotic treatment. No follow up. 5 years later, my new doc says I still have it. Also, just discovered I have antigen for h-pylori which I had had in 2013 and treated with Prevpac.
What kind of doctor can deal with both and recommended treatment?
My PCP promotes natural remedies wherever possible, which I like but am I being naive?

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics would be the main approach, infectologist best; both can be use

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. It actually depends on which country you are in, and from the description it seems you are in the USA. In the USA, you can approach a physical (PCP) itself for treatment, but if possible it would be best if you can consult an infectologist or infection specialist.

Treatment approach is as follows for lyme's:

+Antibiotic coverage is the main approach (e.g. cefuroxime, amoxicillin) and only approach. It can be taken orally when the patient is being treated at home, or intravenously when being treated at the hospital

Treatment approach for h-pylori will work perfectly with prevpac, and I would not be against treatment with the same preparation even this time, only to make sure the course is adequately completed.

As for natural remedies, it is a little naive to go ahead with treatment only with natural remedies, but that is my opinion. A more neutral opinion would be to go ahead with both approaches, the medical one as well as natural remedies.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
