Suggest Treatment For Withdrawal Symptoms Of Xanax
Question: I am 38 yrs old- male. I began taking xanax without a prescription in march- up to 5 bars/ day. I began to slowly taper off in august and am now at 1/4 bar every 3 days plus a sleep aid- not prescribed, but for opiate users- occasionally to sleep. I am concerned that within the past month, I have had increased issues with my stomach- feeling like it is full of water, not being able to eat/ drink because of this, pain in my upper left stomach when it is pressed on; issues with sexual performance- at first reaching climax almost immediately, now not being able to become erect. Also, I have issues with not being able to sleep, being tired, feeling nauseated (even with this and stomach issues I am hungry- just cant eat), stomach gurgling, being hot/ feeling hot.

And..... while the xanax is out of the system in a day, and the withdrawal is not at an amount likely to require hospitalization in under a week, some maladjustments from it often lasts a long time. These take the form of a milder withdrawal type of effect: being overstimulated. Gut, nerves, sleep, jumpiness, mood all are affected by it. Cognitive behavioral therapy is useful for it.

Of course going back onto an addictive drug will change a lot of issues in the immediate run (and lower cravings) but it isn't at all a good idea.
Any other nerve damper will likely be of some benefit (any drug for epilepsy... trying the least abused first would be a good idea). An addiction psychiatrist will be a good choice for choosing prescriptions but mention the anti-epileptics as a possibility--they might not think of it.
