default
Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: I am very active, surf a lot, have Parkinsons and the surfing helps drastically. BUT range of motion can, at times be dibilating in the shoulder area. When this occurs can be one or the other shoulder or both. When it occurs range of motion can be limited and muscles become very weak. Again it is sporadic. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
This is not unexpected and common with persons having Parkinson's.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this sporadic freeze/limitation in the range of your movements. This is not unexpected in the context of parkinson. There is no way to predict and there is just nothing specific that can be done to completely prevent this. My advise would be that you avoid surfing alone at in dangerous places as a freeze might prove difficult to overcome and continue surfing alone.

In all, it is part of the natural and well documented history of Parkinson's. There is no specific treatment type for this condition. Keep me posted on this and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thanks for your prompt answer. It is not, I believe a 'true' Freeze. I have normally a full range of motion except when one of these episodes take place. Usually when lifting something but only in a certain range, then it is extremely painful. It is in the location of the shoulder more muscular and out not deep XXXXXXX

You are correct Keep in mind when you go to a garage sale shirts sell for .25 to $1.00 per piece (I think you are giving me new price values) That is very possible, I will take a more realistic approach to it. I believe that the main problem NOW is that this has taken so long circumstances have changed drasticly.
