Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

Well, there can be many reasons for the swelling of ankles...I will quote a few along with symptoms...Do let me know what matches yours:

1. It can be due to heart involvement: you may experience cough, shortness of breath on lying down

2. Any liver problem which can cause low albumin

3. Kidney problem: It will come with swelling of the face and urine output may be low...

4. More common is the venous problems which usually happens at your age. The swelling will appear more on walking and when you sleep it will disappear

5. Drugs: It can be due to blood pressure medications as well which one takes

DO let me know your other symptoms in detail and we can figure out the cause from here

The only symptom I have is the swelling of my left ankle. I take Atenolol for blood pressure, Tricor,Lisinopril and Janumet. My last blood test was 3 weeks ago. The only two thing out were the blood pressure 169 over 79, weight gain from 171 to 181 and cholesterol went to 168.

Brief Answer:
Ankle swelling

Detailed Answer:
good evening

Well, just ankle swelling with no other symptoms goes more in favor of venous insufficiency( That is varicose veins). With age, the veins lose their normal wall elasticity and tend to become weak and carrying the fluid from the legs, especially against gravity. Hence they tend to swell up.

But I will still say examination is more superior..Just to be sure , it is due to veins only and not any local joint inflammation. So if someone can check for your veins, and it would be good.. I would advise you a doppler of the legs..It doesnt look like related to medicines or any other cause

Hope the information was useful
