Suggest Treatment For Warts Near Genital Area

Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,
I would like your help. I have some small warts near my genital area since i was 17 (i am now 27) that look very much like HPV warts. I have asked the opinion of 2 doctors and i am confused as the one says there are not codyloma while the other insists that they are condyloma. I am very confused because i had them when i was in my first ever relationship with a man of my age that i was also his first ever relationship. The questions i would like to ask are:
1. How is it possible to get condyloma from HPV if me and my 1st boyfriend both never had a sex partner before?
2. Is it normal for a virus, condyloma or not, to last for 10 years? I have burned the warts 4 time and they returned back. I have also used Aldara on them but did nothing to them.
3. Is there anything that is not sexually transmitted and can cause warts in genital areas? (I also have the same ones behind my knee).

Brief Answer:
Genital warts is STD; rarely common warts can autoinnoculate from elsewhere

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have taken note of your query and I have understood your concern.

1. There is absolutely no way you could have genital warts through sexual contact if you never have sexual contact other than a single sexual partner who also had sex only with you and no one else ever! Provided you are absolutely sure of this fact about your boyfriend.

2. Yes, though Hpv infection can last for years but most of the times body's own immunity takes care of Hpv infection and the person is usually free of Hpv after 1 Or 2 years of it being first acquired. This being assisted by surgical removal of any visible warts.

3. Rarely common warts can occur in genital area but then the route of transmission is non-sexual. Warts can autoinnoculate from elsewhere sites on body to genital area.
