Suggest Treatment For Vomiting When Diagnosed With Ear Infection

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Jan 2017
Question: I have been diagnosed with a middle ear infection. I went to the emergency room Sunday evening where I was given medicine for nausea because I keep vomiting, a sedative, and benedryl. My Rx for home was diazepam, ondansetron odt, and benedryl. In An earlier episode at the emergency room I was given phenagrin (?) but found out that it makes me agitated. Yesterday evening seemed better but this morning when I woke up the room was spinning again and I started to feel nauseous. That really scares me because when I stare vomiting I can't stop. Is this ever going to get better.

Brief Answer:
will resolve, normally take 1 to 2 weeks

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It will get better.

The ears play a bid role in balance and this is the reason that ear infections can cause dizziness, vertigo and associated nausea and vomiting.

In most cases, the symptoms resolve in 1 to 2 weeks, rarely slightly longer.
The benaryl and diazepam are supposed to help with the dizziness and vertigo (the spinning feeling) and the benadyl (helps with both) and ondansetron would help with the nausea and vomiting.
Assuming that you are also using an antibiotic (topical or oral) for the ear infection.

These medications are likely to make you sleepy which would affect your oral intake so you may have to make an extra effort to make sure that you drink enough fluids to prevent dehydration from the vomiting.
Use only very small amounts at a time to prevent stomach upset.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
