Brief Answer:
Could be either growing pains, or vitamin deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
8 year old boy with leg pain , can be because of growth or vitamin deficiency , or both. I suggest you get Vitamin D and Vit B12 done along with x ray both heels lateral view. Ask him for no active outdoor sports for 3-4 weeks.
Start vit D3 supplementation -any good chemist shop will give you vit D3 caps to be taken once a week.
Please let us know the reports and X ray Pics for further evaluation.
Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
