Suggest Treatment For Vestibular Migraines

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Jul 2017
Question: I have been dx with vestibular migraines. Couple years now they vary each day. I am always dizzy though. My doctor has me on vermapil 40mg x3. hasn't helped much. Next is to try low dose nortriptyline. He also is telling me that low dose ativan or klonopin is very useful for this condition . How do you feel about taking one of those low dose daily ? (either .5 mg ativan or .5 klonopin) for at least several months until I get the dizziness under control ?

Brief Answer:
Low dose Klonopin may be used for four weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Antidepressants such amytriptiline, nortryptiline, or benzodiazepines such clonazepam, lorazepam, could be used in low doses in your case of your Doctor noticed that there is associated anxiety with vestibular migraine.

I think you can use clonazepam in low doses for four weeks and see the effects.

Another class of drugs used to prevent vertiginous migraine are anticonvulsants (topiramate, valproate, lamotrigine) that may be an option if the above treatment failed to improve your condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
