Question: Good evening. My son 18 has hives on his body. He's taking benadryl. We had gone to the hospital to see what it was. We thought it was scabies, the doctor said no. He also prescribed prednisone. He said there hives. Can scabies completely disappear in the day and start at night

Brief Answer:
It must be hives

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for posting on HCM.
I can understand your concern regarding the skin lesions but its difficult to point specific diagnosis in absence of clinical examination.
Considering the history of relief immediately to treatment does suggests that it must be hives or urticaria which is a simple allergic skin rash.

While scabies on the other hand, is a infestation of mite and usually takes few days to a week for complete resolution and also there is similar history in other family members in most of the cases.

Let me know if you require any more assistance from my side.
Thanks
