Question: I had bracytherapy for prostate cancer about 12 yers ago. Every couple of years my urine shuts down and I have a dilation with a Foley Catheter. My urologist say the only solution is high risk ssurgery which may leave me incontinent. Are there alternatives? Is the urolume a viable alternative?

Brief Answer:
You can try Prostatic Stent(Urolume)

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you had cancer of the prostate which was treated with brachytherapy 12 years ago and get retention of urine occasionally.

Retention of urine that you develop is due to post radiation urethra stenosis of the prostatic urethra.

Considering your age and the long duration of 12 years after successful results of brachytherapy with minimal and temporary episodes of urinary retention it is not advisable to go for any major surgical procedure .This may land in disastrous complication of incontinence of urine .

Putting prostatic stent is a viable option and is approved by FDA.You can explore the possibility of putting the Temporary Urolume stents with Urologist .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you.
Thanks and Regards.
