Question: My father has been less responsive in conversations, and sometimes cannot control bladder during the night. He sleeps a lot too.
Blood reports showed low sodium.
Should Trental be continued beyond one month ? What is the medication for ?

Brief Answer:
hyponatremia can cause such features

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Hyponatremia is usually associated with drowsiness, increased sleep, and increases risk of seizure.
Bladder incontinence may also be associated with it or maybe due to local cause. As usg and ultrasound are normal then hyponatremia correction should be done first.
Trental is pentoxyphylline used for peripheral vascular disease.
Rest medication should be continued. Urine examination to rule out infection.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Brief Answer:
yes additional salt intake may help

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Yes additional salt intake may help but cause of hyponatremia should be searched. Old people are susceptible for recurrent hyponatremia mostly secondary to drugs, infection and decreased oral intake.
Hope your father recover early.
Wishing good health
