Question: My mother in law has an upset stomach and weak and she has heart failure and last stageof kidney failure and she just dont feel good.

Hello,

a patient with end stage renal disease (ESRD) requires testing when symptoms like these occur. A rise in her urea may make her weak and nauseous. Electrolyte disorders may do so as well. Her heart failure may be related too since a worsening to it may cause nausea and weakness. Heart failure is usually evident by swelling of the legs or shortness of breath. Anemia is another disorder that occurs frequently in ESRD patients and may make any symptom worse.

So in conclusion, a patient with many comorbidities should be evaluated by a doctor whenever symptoms occur. In a patient like her I would have asked for a complete blood count, urea, creatinine and electrolytes. Other tests might be required as well depending on the results and clinical assessment.
