Suggest Treatment For Ulceration Around The Nipple
Question: Hi doctor my wife is breastfeeding and she has ulcerations around the nipple and she is using fucidin to paint the nipple area . And my child is always crying

This occurs if only the nipple is placed in the mouth. The areola (the dark part around the nipple), should also be inserted, as much as possible to reduce the stress on the nipple.
She should apply some of the same breast milk to the nipple to help with healing.
The baby may be crying if he or she is not getting enough. 15 mins each breast or 30 mins on one , alternating with each feed.

No the fucidin would not affect the baby significantly. It is normally used twice a day, morning and evening and she can use a very very small amount after a feed in the mornning/evening.
As mentioned, breast milk applied to the breast after each feed actually helps to heal these cuts which can be very painful to the mother when the baby is breastfeeding.
She can use paracetamol for herself for the pain, this would not affect baby. Babies use baby paracetamol if they need it
They occur if only the nipple is inserted. She needs to try to insert some of the surrounding areola as well to reduce the pain and help to make sure baby gets enough.
Feed for 1/2 on one breast then alternate or 15 mins each breast with each feed.
Don't let the baby fall asleep before he or she is finished because then wouldn't get enough. If starts to fall asleep , gently stroke the side of the mouth or feet to wake him/her.
Also , mummy needs to relax if she feels stressed which is natural. As a mom, I know that it can be difficult but if she is stressed, it actually will reduce breast milk production.
