Suggest Treatment For Trigger Thumb

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Aug 2017
Question: I am left handed, in my right hand by my thumb, when I pick up lets say a plate it feels like it's broken. Just using it normally it is just fine. It's only when I try to pick something with my hand extended up, sometimes is seems to get caught on the inside. But sometimes it can go days without hurting. If I use it a lot is will hurt more, not sure if I broke something and haven't let it heal or what....

Brief Answer:
Could be trigger thumb.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon,
The way you are describing , to me it appears that you are suffering from trigger thumb in (R) hand. In this condition ,at the base of thumb on inner side , there is a small nodule which does not allow smooth functioning.
I suggest you start pain killers ,do hot fomentation twice daily and apply local analgesic cream for few days. If there is no relief then local injections may be required.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.

I don't take any medication and never have, I don't like it much. It doesn't hurt all the time, just every now and then (10x a week depending how much I use it) I type all day long and it doesn't bother it. I went to the bank a few weeks ago and it was hurting quite a bit, I got my hand stuck in the door handle on the way in and I felt something pop or XXXXXXX I thought it was going to hurt worse, but it actually felt better for a few days until I was playing with my 240 lb puppy and she slammed in into the floor and it started hurting again.
