Posted on Thu, 24 Aug 2017
Question: I just had a bad tooth infection which I went to the ER and they gave me antibiotics... I made an appt with my dentist but it's a week away.

Now I have been told that my blood sugar has been high and I'm now feeling thirsty all the time , I pee minutes after I drink something, excessive sweating, tired all the time,

It sounds like I have diebetes

My question is should I drink water everytime I'm thirsty? Is there anything I can do as a temp solution until I see my doctor?

Brief Answer:
Yes,you should drink.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.

Increased thirst, frequent urination and feeling tired all the time can be symptoms of Diabetes mellitus.

For the confirmation of diagnosis it is necessary to have these results on two separate occasions.
-Fasting glucose test: ≥ 126 mg/dL or
-Random glucose test: ≥ 200 mg/dL wit.h symptoms or
-A1C measurement: ≥ 6.5 percent.
After your tests result, your doctor can confirm the diagnosis and start the right treatement.

Your excessive thirst is the result of dehydration caused by frequent peeing and excessive sweating(in your case). With these signs your body is telling you that you need water.

For this reason it is very very important to drink plently of water to avoid dehydration and his consequences.

Immediate effects of not treating severe diabetes-related dehydration can include headaches, nausea, dizziness, and fainting.Be careful if you have any of these symptoms!

For people with diabetes, dehydration can also cause diabetic ketoacidosis. This is a very dangerous/acute diabetes complication.

All you need to do untill you see your local doctor is:
-Drink plently of water
-Eat health.(Key elements are fruits, vegetables and whole grains. A diabetes diet is the best eating plan for most everyone.)
-Exercise regularly(Regular physical activity helps to prevent glucose from building up in your blood.)

Hope this is helpful.
If you have other doubts, feel free and ask.I will be happy to help.
Take care.

Thanks for your reply

I keep drinking bottle after bottle of water or coconut water, or an iced tea but it feels like I just ran 2 miles and I guzzle a bottle of water... every time I drink it feels like that ... then I pee 10 min later... should I keep drinking more water until that feeling goes away?

Also, this tooth infection I think hasn't gone away. Are infections something related to being a diebitic

Brief Answer:
Yes,you should keep drinking.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Apart excessive sweating, your thirst can be caused by high blood sugar or hyperglycemia.
To clarifie this situation i suggest to do a random sugar blood test(if you have a gluuucometer you can do this test without problem)

Let me know your result because this result is important for me to understand your actual situation.

About your ear infection i can say that it is true that diabetics are more susceptible to developing infections, as high blood sugar levels can weaken the patient's immune system defenses.

If you thinkthat your infection hasn't gone away,my advice is to contact your treating ENT specialit for the follow up of your ear problem and the right treatement.

Hope i have clarified all your doubts.
Regards.
