Question: My dentist prescribed Clindamycin 150mg. 3 times a day for a tooth infection. I have been taking my antibiotic every 8 hours sometimes setting my alarm to get up. Is that the correct way to take it? Also what do they if a nerve dying in a tooth? Do they fill it in like a cavity? Can cavities cause infections? Also the dentist said I have four cavities to fill and I have severe TMJ. My TMJ has been acting up since this happen. Will my TMJ go into more severe pain than before if the dentist fill in the cavities?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query and understand your concerns.

You are taking Clindamycin three times a day ,so you should take it every 8 hours. It is very important to take the antibiotic in the right way ,what means exactly 8 hours apart in your case.So you are taking it in the right way.

Cavities in teeth can cause a tooth infection if they are not treated in the early stages.
A cavity in a tooth is caused from tooth decay , which is a process that happens over time.It is a process caused from bacteria that are normally found in mouth.
As tooth decay develops ,bacteria can reach the inner part of the tooth ( pulp) which contains nerves and blood vessels, causing inflammation and a bacterial infection. In this stage you may have severe tooth ache.

If the inner part (nerves and vessels) are affected ,then the treatment may include removing the pulp of the tooth and replace it with a filling (this is called root canals ).If there is any infection the dentist will place a medication into the root canal to treat it and then proceed with the filling.
So if the nerve of your tooth is damaged ,this might be the treatment.

Regarding your TMJ , it will not get worse form the filling of the cavities on your teeth.Your teeth won't affect your temporo-mandibular joint .
TMJ disorder it is not related with tooth decay.Contrary to this , a common cause of TMJ disorder like Bruxism (grinding and clenching your teeth mostly during sleep) can cause tooth decay.

Hope it helps.
