default
Posted on Thu, 12 Oct 2017
Question: hello, I've been having tingling and muscle spasms in my legs that also sometimes go up my back and the back of both my arms for a few years now, some days are better than others and it really bothers me at night while lying down. I also sometimes feel off balanced my legs ache and tired alot , does this sound like MS? I also have very high anxiety (with all my issues it makes it worse) but I don't feel anxiety alone could cause all of these symptoms.

Brief Answer:
calcium / vitamin D / Carnitine deficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

I agree with you that all these symptoms are not due to anxiety alone.

I feel that you may be having deficiency of either Calcium/Vitamin D and/or Carnitine.

All these are needed for smooth functioning of the muscles and nerves of our body,be it the legs, arms or any other part of the body.Deficiency of one or all of these can cause muscles to be weak causing spasms, tingling and numbness.

MS seems to be a remote possibility as these are not classical signs of MS.You need not worry about it.

I would suggest you to get your complete blood profile checked including hemoglobin, calcium, vitamin D and carnitine levels.

Start on Calcium, vitamin D supplements with L carnitine tablets on daily basis atleast for 1 month.

Yoga and meditation with deep breathing exercises will be helpful.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
