Brief Answer:
Hiatal hernia
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
The description is most likely a case of a hiatal hernia that can occur when a portion of the stomach prolapses up the esophageal hiatus in the diaphragm. Hiatal hernia is usually found incidentally. It occurs mostly in presence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms. Lifestyle modifications like elevating the head of bed, avoiding night time meals at least 2 hours before sleeping and identifying foods that trigger the symptoms would be beneficial. PPIs like nexium and pro kinetics like metoclopramide along with bismuth subsalicylate and sucralfate are options for aggressive therapy to avoid ulcerations and reflux symptoms. If complications of strictures, upper G.I bleeds or pulmonary complications like aspiration pneumonia or asthma occur then surgical options should be considered including Nissen fundoplication or Belsey fundoplication.
