Thallasemia screening is important during pregnancy to rule out possibility of thallasemia in the baby.
Thallasemia is genetic disease is a proportion of cases.
If parents are patients or carriers of thallasemia, there is possibility of transmitting disease to the baby.

Answered by Dr. Shailja Puri (3 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Management depends on type and degree of thallasemia

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Management of thallasemia depends on the type of thallasemia - major, intermediate or minor.
Thallasemia major and intermedia are usually managed by blood transfusion.
Patients who are on long term blood transfusion require iron chelation therapy.
Minor thallasemia patients may require iron supplements.
However, please mention the medication that you have been prescribed for exact information.

Thanks
