Suggest Treatment For Tennis Elbow And Weakness In Forearms

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, I have tennis elbow, I suffered the injury from doing bicep curls. I am an avid weightlifter and have read that a weakness in my forearms and wrist may have contributed to the injury. I never exclusively work out these two muscle groups (wrist and forearms). If I would add some wrist and forearm strengthening exercises to my routine could that lessen the chances of me getting this injury again

Brief Answer:
Needs rest, Physiotherapy

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

I have read your query and understood your problem.

It is best to give rest to the forearm muscles for 2 weeks because Tennis elbow is a result of micro tears in the Flexor carpi radialis brevis muscle.

You can wear a tennis elbow splint, apply warm packs to the affected region, avoid weight lifting. You can also get ultrasound therapy by a Physiotherapist.

Avoid performing any forearm exercises for 2 weeks till it heals. Yes, you need to do forearm exercises in between your weight lifting regime to avoid indirect forearm muscle tears.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thank you for your answer. I was reading about tennis elbow is it true that it can take 6 - 12 months to heal? I don't have any pain at the elbow or when I apply pressure to my elbow. My wrist is just very tender. It hurts when my fingers are bent back or when I pick up heavy objects

Wrist arthritis
