Suggest Treatment For Tennis Elbow And Herniated Disc On The Neck

Posted on Fri, 23 Jun 2017
Question: hi after a session of wright lifting (bicep curls) I woke with discomfort in my wrist elbow and forearm. I went to see a dr and was diagnosed with tennis elbow. I got an mri of my elbow shoulder and neck. The only thing that came back from these tests was a herniated disc on the right side of my neck. I am experiencing all this pain on my left. The dr sent me for a emg and ncs which came back negative for entrapment. I got 2 shots of prp in my elbow no relief I rested for 5 months and feel the same. I try to do physical therapy exercises but it makes my pain worse even passive stretching really aggravates the symptoms. I am very concerned I think there is an nerve entrapment somewhere either my neck or elbow. Last week I received a cortisone shot in my wrist which has helped a little with the pressure I feel in my wrist. Are there any other diagnostic techniques that can identify nerve entrapment.

Thanks for posting your query.
I have gone through your query,in your condition MRI and NCS are best option for diagnosis,if they are negative than you should go for repeat these test by another center. You can also take oral steroid course for relief.

hi, thank you for a great response. I am getting very concerned about this injury. I have seen 3 different drs and they all are very perplexed. Whenever I try to do light rehab exercises my wrist hurts. It feels like there is tremendous amounts of pressure on my wrist even when I am holding a 1 pound weight. Some of the drs think it is tennis elbow but there is no damage to my elbow, just normal wear and tear. If it was a tendon or ligament issue I would think 6 months of rest would allow me to use 1 pound weights for rehab. Any thoughts or advice. Also does it ever happen that an emg does not pick up a nerve entrapment? Thank you very much

Brief Answer:
EMG detects the nerve issues also.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
EMG and NCV both are not likely to miss a nerve entrapment. Mild inflammation can persist even after rest. improvement after a cortisone shot suggests there is an inflammation in the area. MRI scan can help in diagnosis.
Hope my answer is helpful.

hi, thank for another great answer. I just have one last question. I am not sure how realistic this is but this there any diagnostic techniques that are more invasive in the same way an endoscopy and identify ulcers. I guess what I mean are they ways a dr can insert a camera into my elbow and wrist to get a better view of whats going on? Thank you for your time

Brief Answer:
No such technique.

Detailed Answer:
There is no invasive technique that can visualize a nerve and then detect a damage.
Only non invasive investigations can help.
Regards.
