Suggest Treatment For Tendinitis In The Right Shoulder

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Mar 2017
Question: I have been diagnosed with calcific tendinitis in my rt shoulder. I had a dry needling that provided relief for 6-8 weeks but pain has returned. My biggest concern is that my rt arm and hand and thumb develop a tremor when I become chilled. Also, my arm doesn't swing normally when I walk. And my handwriting has changed. The letters tend to get smaller as I write. I am very concerned that I have Parkinson's. I am a 59 yr old female.

Brief Answer:
Parkinson's is possible.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

I must say that you do make a good case for the possibility of Parkinson's. Tremor at rest on one side is one of the main features of Parkinson's. Rigidity (stiffness), bradykinesia (movement slowing) are other features which may manifest with gait changes and reduced movement of the limb on walking. Pain while not specific to Parkinson is often found in many patients, painful frozen shoulder syndrome is one of the most common types of pain, there are patients which may be diagnosed starting with that as an initial symptom.

So the possibility of Parkinson's should be considered. You should talk to your doctor about it and try to obtain a neurological referral, it is important to be seen by a neurologist as Parkinson's is a clinical diagnosis, there are no lab tests to confirm it, so a neurological examination by an experienced specialist is recommended.

Hopefully it will turn out to be the other possibility which is simply related to tendonitis with muscle spasms and limitation of movement due to pain.

I remain at your disposal for other questions.
