Question: hello I I believe I have tmd it sounds like I have all the symptoms fatigue a little popping of the jaw ahces all on my body. but most concerning I have been having sinus problems like not breathing in one nostril and now I can't really breathe on the other side either, I'm also getting water in my ears when I swallow water. I believe every time I swallow water it is going into my sinus! because sometimes it will get cleared for a few seconds and then return, is there anything I can do for this ? i'm scared I wont be able to breathe through my nose when 4 months ago I was fine. I do have dental problems which i'm going to get fixed. but will I ever get to breathe normally again?

& what should I do I have an appointment with a dentist that handles tmd I also heard it could be the muscles around the sinus are weakening...

Brief Answer:
Warm compresses, see dentist, nasal saline

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question. It sounds like you have two different problems, one with your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and one with your sinuses. For the TMJ try warm compresses to the jaw and continue the ibuprofen for a few more weeks. Also seeing the dentist is a great idea. For the sinuses try using the nasacort and claritin which you have used before but add to it nasal saline. This is a sterile saline solution spray that you can buy at the pharmacy. Use it 8-10 times a day to moisturize your sinuses and flush out allergens. If you are tender over your sinuses you may have an infection and may need to ask your doctor for an antibioitic. Also consider seeing an allergist for some allergy testing. If you smoke it is also a goodidea to stop that and avoid being around people that smoke. Smoke of any type is very irritating to the sinuses. Good luck and I feel sure that you will be able to breathe normally again.

thanks doctor so it is possible for your sinuses to act up for 3 months on the right side and all of a sudden move to the left?

Brief Answer:
yes that is possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your follow up.

Yes it is possible. Especially if the sinus inflammation is being triggered by allergies. It is reassuring that your ENT looked in with a scope and did not see any abnormalities. This makes it more likely to be allergies or infection and thus more treatable.

I hope you feel better soon.
