Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: In the last few weeks I have experienced a lot of dizziness. It happens mostly when I lay down and as I get up. Also when I look up. I have not changed my meds so I don't think the meds are a problem and I have tried to drink more water. I am not sure at this point what I should try next other than seeking medical help. If I do, what is the best way to proceed?

Brief Answer:
seems to be BPPV (benign positional paroxysmal vertigo).

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having episodic dizziness.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be BPPV (benign positional paroxysmal vertigo).

Benign positional proximal vertigo, commonest cause of vertigo, occurs with change of position of the head.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon, get detailed ent examination, vestibular tests (to differentiate central/peripheral vertigo) and Dicks-Hallpike maneuver and/or the roll test (diagnostic clinical test). Depending on the examination, treatment can be started.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Is this more likely than VAD is there anything I can do in the meantime to help the situation until I can see a Dr.?

Brief Answer:
need local doctor prescription.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Yes. It is common (BPPV) than VAD (vartebral artery dissection).

Meantime, take some body's help (day to day activities) to prevent accidental fall. You can take cinnarizine or betahistine tablet twice daily. For that, you need local doctor prescription and they should be taken under supervision.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
