Swelling with tenderness of ankle indicates either infection of foot or arthritis of ankle joint . My first suspicion is arthritis of ankle joint.

There are many types of arthritis but I am suspecting Gouty arthritis in you. Hence I recommend the following tests for you. Kindly get it done and revert back with reports.

X ray Ankle joint , Serum Uric acid and RA factor.

For the pain relief you can take Combiflam and use hot compresses.
