Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Anxiety Disorder

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2016
Question: I am going through some family issues since last 2-3 months. 2 months back I felt screwing chest pain and I was terrified that I got a heart attack. But my doctor checked my ECG and ECHO-Cardio gram, both were normal. He however told me to go for treadmill test which is pending till now.

Because of these issues, I am feeling following symptoms on & off (not continued): more heart-beats, lack of sleep, over-thinking, upper body precipitation during sleep at mid-night, mild chest pain and depression. I am having lesser desire to eat and I lost 3 kg weight in 3 months. For insomnia, my doctor prescribed Alprax 0.5 mg tablet which I have consumed a total of only 10 to 12 till now within 3 months. How can I get back my physical & mental well-being.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.
The symptoms which you are experiencing after the family issues are suggestive of anxiety disorder. As your ECG and echo are normal, so there is no cardiac issues.

To restore your physical and mental well-being, I have some suggestions for you:
1.Practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation.
2. Eat green vegetables and fruits. Drink plenty of fluids.
3. Remember three things for which you are thankful, daily in the morning.

Regarding drug treatment, I would suggest you to consider starting antidepressant antianxiety drugs like escitalopram or paroxetine (prescription) after discussing with your doctor.
For Insomnia, you can occasionally take alprax as prescribed by your doctor.

Hope this helps.
Feel free to discuss further.
Thanks.

Thank you doctor for your constructive suggestions. I am trying to cope with it with best of my abilities, but do you suggest I should see a psychiatrist and go for medication? And will the suggested medicines will make me dependent on it in the long run?

Brief Answer:
Start with drug treatment

Detailed Answer:
You are most welcome.
I would advice you to consult a psychiatrist as your symptoms have persisted for 2 months now. It is better to take early drug treatment then to wait for problem to worsen and then take medicines.

Alprax can cause dependence but other are safe and effective. Those are not habit forming.

I wish you well.
Thanks.
