Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of GERD

Question: I would prefer an answer from someone that is an er doc. I have been having some intense heartburn on and off for three months. Today, every time i eat or drink i get intense chest pain. It goes away as soon as i am finished with the bite or sip. I don't think that it could be heart related but I wanted to get an opinion. I don't want to rack up a bunch of er charges if I don't have to. I am female and 56. No illnesses.

i am asking the question to find out if I need to go to the emergency room. It is 4 in the morning here. I would prefer to go to an urgent care tomorrow but don't want to risk a heart event if this could be heart related.

Brief Answer:
GERD

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Based on your medical history, I would say that you are suffering from Gastro Esophageal reflux disease (GERD).
However, being an Internal Medicine specialist I always go for ECG once a patient with such symptoms come to us in ER.
This is because at your age, a lot many times it happens that a person is claimed to be having Acid reflux but ECG revealed Heart attack.
So my concern is that getting an ECG done is a good idea.
I would recommend you to go for an Upper GI Endoscopy if your ECG again comes out to be normal.
You should be treated with Pantoprazole and Levosulpride once a day to help with GERD symptoms.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
