Suggest Treatment For Swollen Feet And Ankles
Question: My husband started having swollen feet and ankles about 10days ago. They became dis colored bruised looking but then that went away. He started taking Lasix 40mg and potassium 10mg 4 days ago but his ankles and feet are still extremely swollen. Also he has a bloated look all over, stomach thighs face and hands. And is experiencing extreme pain in his right hip and lower back.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.
There are a number of reasons that a person does not respond to lasix.
1) Too lower dose.
2) Urine output not good(if a person is not urinating enoug his edeme will never go away)
3) Kidney damage which on one hand doesnt let lasix work and on other hand loses proteins which make body bloated.
4) Lasix resistance.
What does he need?
He needs a re evaluation. May be His doctor should check his blood albumen Kidney functions urine Complete exam report and echocardiography and then decide what to do
If lasix is not working some other type of diuretic can be given
I would suggest you to contact his doctor immediately to reconsider the medication a person has to repsond to lasix in four days... even if edema doesn't go away completely, atleast it should show a decreasing trend. OR else some other way has to be sought.
