Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Sore Knee While Recovering From Diarrhea

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I developed a stomach virus with very bad diarrhea starting Saturday-it is now Tuesday. The diarrhea seems to have subsided and I feel better, but this morning I woke up with swollen, sore knees. Is this due to dehydration from the diarrhea, or could it be reactive arthritis? I had a similar issue with my wrist last year after a vomiting stomach flu. I am taking ibuprofen and iced and heated the knees which helped a bit. Just wondering when/ if I should see my doctor

Brief Answer:
It is most likely reactive arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. It is most likely reactive arthritis. You can continue with your treatment of icing, ibuprofen for pain relief along with rest.If it is doesn't subsides within a week you may consult a doctor. It may require steroid injections after doctors consultation.I found very good result with triamcilone injection weekly in reactive arthritis in my clinical practice.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
