Question: My feet and lower legs are swollen. What should I do? I have been on my feet at work 10 hours a day for the last four consective days. My job requires that I be on my feet for that period of time. I had a myectomy in February of this year.

Brief Answer:
should elevate the legs

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would be best to elevate the legs for as long as possible to promote blood flow back to the heart.

Swelling of the legs can occur due to different reasons, one of these would be venous insufficiency meaning that the veins in the legs have difficultly returning the blood back to the heart.
More likely with prolonged standing/walking or sitting with the feet hanging downwards.

Sitting or lying down with the feet elevated would help as would the use of compression stockings to help increase blood flow backwards.

These special stockings can be worn when working as well.

You can use the ice while your legs are elevated.

Other causes of swelling in the legs include heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure, low proteins in the blood, side effect of medication, trauma, infection or arthritis.
