Posted on Wed, 29 Jul 2015
Question: I had a total hysterectomy in 2009 with a pelvic mass weighing three pounds on the right side. I am now experiencing swelling in my left leg with a fullness and it feels like a reoccurrence of the same. I have very little appetite and I am very tired and weak. I need help but so afraid of surgery again

Brief Answer:
May not be a recurrence

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

This swelling of left leg may not be due to recurrence of the mass. It can be because of blood clot in vein, or low protein, heart or liver problems or even due to some drugs. You have not mentioned regarding the nature of the mass. Was it malignant or cancerous? If not then recurrence is not a possibility. Even if cancerous, recurrence after 6 years bit unlikely.

I would recommend to get routine blood work, abdominal ultrasound and doppler of leg veins.

These would clinch the diagnosis and appropriate treatment can be initiated. Surgery is a remote possibility and I don't feel we should think about it right now.

Hope this helps. I will be available for follow-up.
Regards
