default
Posted on Mon, 15 Sep 2014
Question: 10 days ago I stumbled on my porch steps. I hit my left shin on the next riser. Some skin was scraped off and as i fell my leg turned and i whacked my ankle bone, inside side of leg also. Now, the leg is still bruised and discolored from the place on the front of my shin, around the calf and down to the ankle bone. It is itchy and tender. There is some swelling . I've used both hot and cold packs and elevate my leg when I get home from work, i have a standing job. By the end of my shift there is some swelling in my lower leg at the ankle. No pain when i walk.

Brief Answer:
Soft tissue Injury

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query carefully and understand your concern. Since you are able to walk around and doing your job regularly, it does not looks be a serious bony injury.
Bruises and swelling, take time (2-3 weeks) to heal and it may be a little bit more in lower limb injury. To reduce discoloration you may use thrombophob ointment along with drug (prescription only) trypsin/chymotrypsin to reduce swelling. Elastic compression bandage also helps especially while sitting/standing. This bandage may be wrapped from foot to upper leg and not vice versa.
Hope this helps.
Take care
