I am a psychiatrist and I see so many patients willing to commit suicide and have tried to end their life.
Most common cause behind suicide is depression. Up to 15% of patients of depression die due to suicide and of those who have committed suicide 80% were suffering from depression.
There are so many reasons for committing a suicide.

What I mean is totally disregard for pain or injury 2 knee surgries i spinal surgery and another scheduled for a total of 45 spinnal surgries in the last 4 years. Must not be a subconcious thing. But found my treasured paramedic son in oiur garage after he had hung himself, now all I can really feel at all is pain so I guess I am sort of embracing it so I feel anthing at all.

When did this happen when you found your son in garage? he is your son and you are very much attached to him. when a loved one dies, grief is very intense. it usually subsides and person returns to his/her normal routine within 10 to 15 days but when i continues for long with depressive symptoms, retardation, loss of interest, suicidal gestures and thoughts then it becomes pathological grief and one should seek professional help by seeing psychiatrist and attending sessions of grief counselling, sharing one's feeling is also important. family support is also very important.
These symptoms of totally disregard for pain and injuries can be a part of pathological grief if someone blames himself for what has happened. you might have similar feelings though you may not encounter that one consciously.
You should think over it, it is bothering you somewhere, somehow.
If I would be your doctor i would suggest you to seek grief counselling and treatment from psychiatrist that is in the form of antidepressant medication which improves your mood and other guilt feelings.
