Suggest Treatment For Subcutaneous Hematoma On Knee Post Injury

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: I fell on ice earlier this evening, about 5 hours ago. My knee hurt right away and later it seemed swollen but now it has a large goose egg on my knee cap. It sounds like from reading someone else's similar question, I may need to have it xrayed...but is it okay to sleep tonight and go to town tomorrow (28 miles each way) to have the xray?

Brief Answer:
can wait till morning/one day, not emergency.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar.

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern. You may be having subcutaneous hematoma which will resolve gradually. And yes, you need x ray to exclude fracture. However it is not so urgent and you can wait till morning. But untill you see the doctor, I strongly recommend you rest the knee. Elevation of leg and knee will help. Analgesic such as ibuprofen are helpful in reducing pain. Vitamin B and C is helpful in recovery.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Wishing you a good health
Take care.
