Question: 3 days ago my 6 year old son had a stye looking spot on the outside lower eyelid near his lash line. The next morning he woke up with his eye swollen shut and matted together. He was diagnosed with pink eye and given oral azithromycin. He has been on the antibiotic for 3 days now and the spot that looked like a stye has turned into 2 red open ulcerations with swelling and redness on his lower lid as well as the appearance of a black eye. Should I be concerned or let the antibiotics work for the remaining 2 days?

Brief Answer:
Plze Continue the treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear
Welcome to the HCM,
Child had developed infection of the eyelid ( big stye) leading to such exaggerated inflammatory response.
Required to get it treated properly with oral and local antibiotic.
I would have preferred some broad spectrum antibiotic like augmentin and some antiinflammatory drugs like paracetamol with full course and adequate doses.
Local cleaning is also important with hot fomentation.
This Big stye might have developed some ample amount of pus which has created multiple opening.
Continue with this treatment .
with due course of time it should respond.
Black eye will take some time to resolve of its own.
Hope the query is answered.
Plze feel free for further clarification.
Thanks
