Suggest Treatment For Stiffness And Lump On Right Side Of Neck

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: I developed a lump on the right side of my neck on 7/5/2015. This condition just appeared on July 5-6 starting with a stiff neck. I had a lot of pain with this condition. On 7/7 The Dr. put me on Prednizone 20mg plus clindamycin 300mg. He also ordered a CT scan. The result indicated either an infected lymph node or a most likely type 2 branchial cleft cyst. My question is I went off the Prednizone for several days and the swelling returned no pain as was the case when I started treatment. I am a 68 year old male, very active with no medical conditions.

Brief Answer:
Need re-assessment

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I would suggest that you must visit a pulmonologist as you need to get your lymph nodes re examined. I feel you need to get ultrasound or CT guided FNAC done to find out if infective. The sample from aspiration must be tested for cytology, gram staining, ZN staining and culture sensitivity for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and mycobacterial infection to rule out if tuberculosis or other bacterial infection. If positive then you have to start Antibtubercular treatment. The treatment will depend upon the diagnosis from investigations.

Stay in follow up.
