Question: Hi
I have a Staphylococcus infection in belly button been seen by my GP but it keeps returning after. is it common to itch or is there a fungul infection there as well

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

If this infection responds to staph treatment only to return later, there may be a favoring factor responsible for that or it may be resistant to antibiotics. In this case, I will suggest that you get a sample of secretions from this for evaluation and also get it closely examined for ant possible clues as to why the infection keeps returning. A culture would tell for sure what germs are responsible for the infection and whether we need to be worried about fungal infection or not. Treatment would be adjusted accordingly.

In all, get a detailed examination of the belly button and a culture of secretions from it. The results would be helpful in treating and preventing recurrence.
