Suggest Treatment For Spider Bite

Posted on Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Question: It looks like my son got bit by a spider. three days ago I saw a white pus filled blemish on his hip. I popped it and swabbed it down with alcohol. The next day it had a puss filled head again. I did the same thing again but the next day there was a large raised reddish egg (size and shape) of flesh surrounding the bite. The swelling has not gone Down, but there is no pus filled area at the site of the bite. It feels warm to the touch and is reddish. I understand that I aggravated the site by squeezing; should we bring him to a doctor today?

Yes, of course you need to get him checked as early as possible as this seems to be an insect bite. Possibility of Lyme disease can't be ignored so in-person evaluation of the rash is mandatory at this time.

But don't worry as this is all manageable and can be cured. It is good that pus filled lesion has not erupted again.

Keep on applying neosporin and also give him pain medications like ACETAMINOPHEN to reduce swelling and to give pain relief if any. Also start Cold sponging to reduce inflammation and this will cause alleviation of the symptoms even faster.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Please give your 'rating' (if agreed, Five Stars) to help me assist patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to click on 'Close The Discussion'.
