Suggest Treatment For Sores In Mouth, Pharyngitis And Acid Reflux

Posted on Tue, 7 Apr 2015
Question: I have been chewing tobacco for 11 years. I stopped chewing 5 weeks ago. After stopping, I had sores in mouth, for which the dentist prescribed me metrogyl GD gel. Around 4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Pharyngitis and acid reflux, was given Swich CV 325 and omez by ENT. A week ago, I still had sore throat and irritation in throat, visited an ENT and was diagnosed with granular pharingytis, was prescribed Moxclav 625 and bifilic. I am on 4th day of antibiotics. A couple of days ago I notices a very small lump near my right palatine tonsil as there was a dull ache which I felt in my ears and also there is ear fulness. Last week the doctor checked my ears and said they were absolutely ok. I do have a stiffness in my right side of the neck and feeling as if it is swollen.

Brief Answer:
This could be enlarged tonsilar tissue.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.
The lump you described could be an enlarged tonsilar tissue. This pain could be indication of infection. Since the inside ear is connected to pharynx through a tiny tube, enlarged tonsil could cause ear symptoms. Pain could also refer to ear due to same nerve supply.
I recommend the following.
1) Complete the antibiotic course.
2) Analgesic like tablet paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain.
3) Salt water gargling. Add a pinch of salt to a glass of warm water.
4) Quit smoking and tobacco usage.
5) if the lump persists consult an ENT surgeon for evaluation.
You will be fine.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.
Wish you a good health and speedy recovery.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I would also like to know about the stiffness in my right neck.It is in the same side where my tonsilar tissue enlargement is. Can stiffness to the neck occur in this condition? Stiffness is also there for 4-5 weeks. I can feel a very small lump just under my ear beside the jaw bone in my right side of neck, which is not visible but can be felt with fingers. the doctor examined it and said its not a lymph node swell.

What I want to confirm is that whether stiff neck can happen for this condition or may be its because of any injury and the lumps can be muscle knots? Pleas advice.

Brief Answer:
Yes, stiffness could be due to paratonsilar absces

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow up.
Yes, if the tonsilar infection extends deeper leads to paratonsilar abscess. This could cause neck stiffness. The small lump under the ear lobe could be a lymph node and unlikely to be muscle knots.
If the symptoms does not improve with antibiotics, get a review check.

Wish you a good health.

Take care.

One final thing, I am quite scared these days because I have been using tobacco for s long time. After quitting I have visited dentist twice anf ENT specialist twice. Everybody ruled out any sort of malignancy. But I am having continuous issues after quitting. One issuue when solved is followed by another. Is this normal withdrawal occurance?
I am getting quite anxious and scared.
Please help. Thanks.
