Question: hi, i have had a terrible sore throat for three - four days now. lost my voice and my congestion is starting to turn green, if i continue to drink soups, take XXXXXXX selzer and rest will this go away or should i see a dr and get a zpac? i am in good health but had one of these colds turn to pneumonia about 5 yrs ago.

Acute infectious sore throats can either be due to viral or bacterial infection. In the case of a viral infection, there is usually some improvement by day 3 to 4 even if it is minimal.
If viral, you should be noticing a slight change for the better.

Viral infections also tend not to be associated with fever.

If there is no improvement at all or there is worsening, then it is likely that you have a bacterial not viral infection which would require antibiotics such as the z pak. This would have to be determined by your doctor on examination.

Green mucus can sometimes be a reflection of the body's immune response but with a previous history of pneumonia, you should be assessed.
