Brief Answer:
This is normal and typical of a viral cause!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this cold and all the symptoms that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and the attached images. This is typical of an upper respiratory tract infection. The swollen nodes in the sub mental area are responsible for this swelling and are a result of the body mobilizing the defense system to overcome the infection. This is entirely normal. All you need are drugs for the slight sore throat such as tylenol. No need for antibiotics at this time. All will be okay.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Throat feels more swollen rather than pain. Is that normal? My ears feel congested also but when I clean with a atip no wax. Should I take decongetant or expectorant? I thought the glands that swell are more to the sides not under the chin/neck area. That's what had me worried. What causes that? I attached pic of toncills

Brief Answer:
This is typical of viral upper respiratory symptoms!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

These are lymph glands. They serve as check points to fight infections/aggression. When we have an infection, they multiply and that is what explains the increase in size.

I have reviewed the image of your tonsils. Yes, they are typical of URTI. Tylenol and rest alongside increased fluids, fruits and vegetables is enough. The diffuse infection is also responsible for the ear symptoms. They will all resolve within 5-7days.

I hope this helps. Let me know if there is something more you want us to talk on.

is a warm compress something to help resolve swelling? It's not a small pea size hard area just firmer like muscle like double chin...but more dense. I have anxiety and this is making my anxiety off the charts

Brief Answer:
Warm towels wouldn’t help!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Warm towel wouldn’t help. These swellings would resolve as the infection gets resolved. Understand this is the normal course of a viral infection and avoid getting too worried about this. Please, if your anxiety gets off the charts, you might need to get your drugs dosages increased.

I wish you well and let me know if there is soothing more you want me do at this time.

Swelling seems to go down and the up again in the morning. Does coughing at night or snoring cause that?

Brief Answer:
No!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Most of these changes are subtle and probably reported because you look so much at this area on daily basis. My advice is that you go stop doing so and only review after several days. Snoring or night coughs cannot cause this area to increase in size. The only possible cause of this is the reaction to fight the infection.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Let me know what your thoughts are at this time.
