Question: Hello Doctor,
I came down with a mild sore throat and head cold a week ago but now I have developed a very wheezy chest cough and mildly raised temperature. Do you think I need antibiotics?

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

You have asked a very difficult question and I am sure there is no absolutely correct answer for it. I am quite liberal with antibiotics and a few other doctors would argue.
Here is what you should do

1. If you do not have fever then the most probable reason for the wheeze would be sequele to the upper respiratory tract infection it self
2. For the wheeze I recommend that you take bronchodilators like tab doxophylline twice a day
3. avoid cold food and beverages
4. keep yourself warm at all times
5. do not smoke until you are better
6 get a chest x ray done to rule out pneumonia

If were to be your doctor I would have started tab aIthromycin once a day for 3 days

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
