Suggest Treatment For Sore Ears And Sore Throat

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Dec 2014
Question: I have had two sore ears and a sore throat for 5 days and have been very tired. Went to the doctor and he saw that both ears had goo in them and a blood blister. I just sneezed and I coughed up almost immediately a strawberry sized meaty chunk of blood surrounded by mucus. What could be the explanation?

Brief Answer:
The glob of mucus is the trapped sinus secretions

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query.

After going through the history I am of the opinion that the thick glob of blood with mucus could have got dislodged from the sinuses.

Due to upper respiratory tract infection the paranasal sinuses were inflamed. Following which the sinuses would have got blocked and the secretions trapped inside the sinuses.

These secretions when when they start trickling down from the post nasal space it irritates the throat.

Ear examination would stimulate the sensitive vagus nerve inducing cough and occasionally sneezing. While coughing the thick secretions would have got dislodged. Sore ears further substantiate the presence of sinus infection.

I doubt this would have got out of the chest, unless you are having a severe chest infection.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.
