Question: Suddenly developed very sore throat, tender lymph nodes, pain on one side of throat and tongue with associated pain with swallowing. Mild chills, no fever. Was hospitalized last week for acutes diarrhea/vomiting which was diagnosed as probable bacterial infection of lower intestines. Are new symptoms anything to be concerned about?

Brief Answer:
Sore throat - Pharyngitis only.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Based on your clinical symptoms and query, my opinion is as follows:

1. It appears to be acute pharyngitis.
2. Possibly bacterial. However, cannot rule out viral cause.
3. Salt water gargling 3-4 times a day will reduce pain. Also you can take throat lozenges to soothe throat at other times.
4. For fever and pain, you can take paracetamol.
5. If it is not reducing with salt water gargling and pain is increasing, then possibly bacterial and antibiotics needs to be started. Antibiotics of penicillin group like "Amoxycillin with clavulonic acid" can be taken for bacterial infection.
6. Take good amount of fluids. No history of diabetes is given. If present, start on antibiotics immediately. You can take prescription from your doctor.

Not to worry, it is only sore throat. Not related to previous complaints.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
